Academics at Sedbergh
Academic ambition at Sedbergh is built progressively, from the earliest years in Prep through to Sixth Form. Our Prep School curriculum is designed to help pupils discover, apply and communicate their learning, promoting active engagement, creativity, curiosity and critical thinking. These foundations are recognised externally: the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rated the Prep School Excellent for both academic education and personal development, noting excellent progress across all abilities, very strong study skills, and consistently high levels of knowledge, skill and understanding across the curriculum.
As pupils move through the Senior School, this grounding is developed into academic confidence, independence and purpose. Sixth Form pupils achieve strong outcomes that open doors to a wide range of destinations, including leading universities, apprenticeships and professional pathways in areas such as sport, the performing arts, business, the military and industry, both in the UK and internationally. In 2025, 54% of leavers accepted offers from Russell Group universities. The breadth of courses and destinations reflects not only strong academic results, but a culture in which pupils are guided to understand their strengths, refine their ambitions, and take the next step that best suits their individual goals and potential.
