The Sedbergh Journey: Prep to Senior

Small class sizes, expert teaching and full boarding combine to create an environment where young people are known well, challenged appropriately and encouraged to discover their strengths — building confidence, character and a genuine love of learning that prepares them for life beyond school.

Academics at Sedbergh

Academic ambition at Sedbergh is built progressively, from the earliest years in Prep through to Sixth Form. Our Prep School curriculum is designed to help pupils discover, apply and communicate their learning, promoting active engagement, creativity, curiosity and critical thinking. These foundations are recognised externally: the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rated the Prep School Excellent for both academic education and personal development, noting excellent progress across all abilities, very strong study skills, and consistently high levels of knowledge, skill and understanding across the curriculum.

As pupils move through the Senior School, this grounding is developed into academic confidence, independence and purpose. Sixth Form pupils achieve strong outcomes that open doors to a wide range of destinations, including leading universities, apprenticeships and professional pathways in areas such as sport, the performing arts, business, the military and industry, both in the UK and internationally. In 2025, 54% of leavers accepted offers from Russell Group universities. The breadth of courses and destinations reflects not only strong academic results, but a culture in which pupils are guided to understand their strengths, refine their ambitions, and take the next step that best suits their individual goals and potential.

Sports at Sedbergh

Sedbergh School has an international reputation for sporting excellence, built on a tradition of opportunity, ambition, and inclusion. From elite athletes training in world-class facilities to pupils discovering the joy of sport for the first time, we believe in challenging and championing every individual.

“At Sedbergh, sport is for every pupil. Whether it’s on the rugby pitch, in the sports hall, on the water or in the gym, our goal is the same: to help young people discover what they are capable of. We create an environment where pupils can challenge themselves, grow in confidence, and develop the resilience and discipline that sport uniquely provides. Some will go on to achieve remarkable things on the national and international stage, but for all, sport at Sedbergh is about building habits, character and ambition that last a lifetime.” Jen Malings, Director of Sport
