Eliott Reflects on His Term at Sedbergh: You Should Come!
For Year 8 pupil Eliott, his first experience of boarding school has been unforgettable. Having joined Sedbergh Prep School from France for just one term, Eliott has embraced every part of life in the hills—from cricket matches and canoeing trips to the friendships that made saying goodbye so difficult.
“My name is Eliott. I’m in Year Eight and I come from France,” he begins. “This was my first experience of boarding, and I really loved it—to always be with your friends.”
From the moment he arrived, Eliott found the school welcoming. “The housemaster and the housemistress were always really kind to me,” he says. “The teachers helped me a lot to feel welcome. My English really improved when I came to Sedbergh—when I arrived, it wasn’t very good, but now I feel much more confident.”
Eliott quickly found his rhythm, settling into lessons and appreciating the support on offer. “I think the lessons are easier than in France because the teachers make it easier when something is difficult. They always adapt the lesson for you.”
But it wasn’t just the classroom that stood out. For Eliott, sport played a big part in his Sedbergh experience. “What I loved most about studying at Sedbergh is the sport we do every day,” he says. “My favourite sport is cricket—we played it this term, and I really enjoyed it.”
Weekends brought even more adventure. “Each weekend we do one activity, and it always changes. It can be canoeing or going to a trampoline park. It’s always a lot of fun,” he says. “And yes, there are quite a lot of people who stay in boarding at the weekend—so you’re never alone.”
Meal times were another highlight. “My favourite part of the day is maybe tea, when you’re with all the boys your age,” Eliott smiles. “And the food is always really good!”
His decision to come to Sedbergh was inspired by family. “I chose to come because my older brother came to Sedbergh too, and he also had an amazing experience,” he explains. “So I wanted to come too!”
As his term drew to a close, Eliott admitted it wouldn’t be easy to leave. “What I’ll miss the most is my friends,” he says. “I think it was really easy to make friends here—everyone is always really kind to you.”
Would he recommend Sedbergh to others? The answer comes without hesitation:
“Yes, you should come to Sedbergh! You’ll meet a lot of new people and learn things you maybe never would in your own country. I think it’s a very good thing.”
