ADVANCE NOTICE OF SEDBERGH SCHOOL HOSTED EVENTS

Dear neighbours

Saturday 1 July – Speech Day and Firework Display

Saturday 22 July, Sunday 30 July and Tuesday 1 August – County Cricket Matches

I am writing to give you prior notice that the School will be holding four major events in the next 6 weeks.
We are working hard to minimise disruption to the roads and local community throughout this period,
the purpose of this letter is to forewarn you of the events and explain the steps we have taken to
minimise disruption.

Speech Day coincides with the end of term which also creates a period of increased traffic in Sedbergh.
On this occasion, we will write to parents collecting children from the Boarding Houses on Main Street
and Back Lane to use the adjacent fields for parking and to avoid long stops on the road to collect bags.

Our Leavers Ball coincides with the End of Term on 1 July and concludes with a firework display at 10:30
pm, this will last no longer than 20 minutes. The display will take place on the field above Busk Lane and
below the School Cloisters.

Lancashire Cricket will be holding 3 matches in Sedbergh this Summer. The first is the Manchester Thunder vs The Blaze women’s match on 22 July, then a Lancashire vs Cumbria Match on 30 July followed
by Lancashire vs Essex Eagles in the 50 over 1 Day Cup on 1st August.

As part of our preparations for the cricket match, we have worked closely with the safety and security
team from Lancashire County Cricket Club, the AA and the local Cumbria Constabulary Community
Support Team. In addition, we have consulted members of the Parish Council and Chamber of Commerce
to seek their advice and guidance. Our combined traffic management plan aims to reduce road
congestion by encouraging traffic to keep out of the centre of Sedbergh, prevent parking on Busk Lane
and by providing parking on School playing fields and yards. The routes to car parks on School fields will
be signed and supported by stewards who will also direct visitors to the correct access points.

We expect traffic will arrive in Sedbergh between 9.00-11.00am each day and that the busiest days will
be Tuesday 1 August. The majority of traffic will leave Sedbergh after 6.00 pm each day.

We understand that not everyone welcomes these events; in particular, those who are inconvenienced
by disruption during the day or those with pets who may be frightened by the noise generated. I am
sorry if we intrude on these occasions and hope you will accept that we are working hard to reduce the
impact on our community.

Yours sincerely
Dan Harrison
Headmaster
