Sedbergh climbers reach new heights
Following on from their success in our own Sedbergh Invitational Climbing competition in November, twelve pupils from the Prep School participated in the Independent Schools Climbing competition on the 3rd February. The competition was held at the amazing Summit Up climbing centre near Manchester, and seven independent schools from around the North-West were represented on the day.
The boys’ Year 7 and 8 competition was the biggest of the categories, with over 30 entrants. All the boys climbed well, but to end up with 3 top 10 placings was superb. Jaxx Norcliffe-Pye grabbed 10th, Dallas Machell climbed his way to 7th and Reuben Taylor showed his class by taking 3rd.
The girls’ Year 7 and 8 category was no less competitive. Once again, our team climbed brilliantly, and we came away with no fewer than 4 top 10 placings. Indi Cooper scooped 10th place, just pipping Gabriella Forrest who came 11th! Sophia Clutton showed her strength by taking 8th spot and Clara Stemp brought her A-game to get herself on the podium in 3rd position.
The race for the overall crown was a nail-biting competition between a talented Year 8 girl from another school, and Sedbergh climber, Cecily . After climbing a near flawless set of boulders and routes, Cecily claimed a very well-deserved second place – only one point away from top spot.
There was no overall school winner, but I think it is safe to say that if there had been a Year 7 and 8 girls’ trophy, it would definitely have been coming back to Sedbergh!
A huge well done to all the pupils who took part in either of the Year 7 and 8 competitions this year. Juniors…it is your turn next!
