My Week at Sedbergh Prep: William, Head Boy
School life is made up of hundreds of small moments: new experiences, challenges overcome, friendships formed and lessons learnt along the way. In this series, pupils from Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School reflect on their week in their own words, sharing the lessons, challenges, friendships and moments that shape everyday life at School.
For Head Boy, William, Year 8, no two weeks at Sedbergh Prep are quite the same. From cricket and rugby to drums, maths and the responsibilities that come with pupil leadership, his week was certainly varied. Here, William shares why he chose three words to sum it up: different, energetic and awesome.
Choose three words to describe your week. Why did you choose them?
Different, energetic, awesome.
I chose these words because this is how I would describe my week. I chose different because no week is the same as the last. Even if you have the same lessons each week, you are always learning new things in academic lessons or on the sports fields.
Energetic because everyone is always having fun and being playful. Awesome because everyone at Sedbergh is always striving to help people, whether that is in lessons or out on the playground.
What is one moment from this week that you would like to tell people about?
My favourite moment this week was my cricket session on Thursday. Every week Mr Anyon comes down on a Thursday [from Sedbergh Senior School] and does some cricket sessions with Year 7 and Year 8 cricket scholars.
What challenged you this week, and what did you do about it?
What challenged me this week was my drum lesson. It challenged me because I was re-learning my piece after the summer holidays and getting ready for my music exam, which I am taking this term.
How did you notice one of the Ways of the Wolf in action this week?
Responsibility. The Head Girl, the prefects and I all had a meeting with the Senior Leadership Team. I felt a sense of responsibility in going to that meeting and leading it with the Head Girl.
What was the best thing that you learnt this week — in a lesson, activity, sport, music, or from another person?
The best thing I learnt this week was how to cross-cancel in my maths lesson.
Describe your favourite part of school life this week.
My favourite part of school life this week was playing tennis. I was playing with my friends in the sunshine during boarders’ clubs and having loads of fun.
