My Week at Sedbergh Prep: Sarah, Head Girl

School life is made up of hundreds of small moments: new experiences, challenges overcome, friendships formed and lessons learnt along the way. In this series, pupils from Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School reflect on their week in their own words, sharing the moments that stood out, what challenged them and where they saw the Ways of the Wolf in action.

Head Girl, Sarah, in Year 8, reflects on a week of new responsibilities, friendship, hockey, science and overcoming a tricky maths challenge — as well as the importance of something as simple as asking, “How are you?”

What three words would you use to describe your week?

“Interesting, friendly, different.”

Why did you choose these words?

“I chose these words because I have found certain lessons very interesting. It has been great to catch up with old friends and discover new ones. It has been different, but it is a good different as I have extra responsibility.”

What is one moment from this week that you would like to tell people about?

“A moment I would like to tell people about is the Under 13A match against Mowden Hall, which we won 6-1. Everyone played as a team and we have become stronger friends from it.”

What challenged you this week, and what did you do about it?

“In my maths lesson we were learning about reciprocals and multiplying and dividing fractions with an unknown. I found it hard to begin with, but once I redid some of the questions I finally understood it.”

How did you notice one of the Ways of the Wolf in action this week?

“I saw and showed kindness to all the new students (I was a Buddy). They were well looked after and have hopefully settled into life at Sedbergh Prep.”

What was the best thing that you learnt this week?

“I learnt about Group 1 metals (e.g. potassium, lithium and sodium) in science.”

Describe your favourite part of school life this week.

“I really enjoyed formal lunches as they are a chance to meet new people and future friends.”
