Sedbergh Prep School announces pupil leadership team for 2026–27

Sedbergh Prep School is pleased to announce its new pupil leadership team for 2026–27.

The appointments include Head Boy and Head Girl, House leadership roles, Prefects, Academic and Creative Arts positions, and Sports Captaincies. Together, these pupils will play an important role in representing the pupil body, supporting younger pupils and contributing positively to school life throughout the year ahead.

The selection of pupil leaders followed a comprehensive consultation process, designed to ensure that appointments were informed by the views of both pupils and staff, alongside pupils’ own applications for leadership roles.

All pupils from Year 4 to Year 8 were invited to nominate peers whom they felt would be strong candidates for a range of leadership positions. Pupils were encouraged to think carefully about the qualities that make a good leader, including kindness, integrity, reliability, enthusiasm, communication skills and the ability to act as a positive role model within the school community.

Alongside the pupil consultation, teaching and support staff were also invited to provide nominations and feedback. Staff were asked to identify pupils who consistently demonstrate leadership qualities, contribute positively to school life and embody the values of the Prep School.

In total, almost 200 pupil responses and more than 80 staff responses were collected and reviewed. This gave the School a broad and thoughtful picture of how pupils are seen by their peers and by adults across the community.

The consultation process was then considered alongside pupils’ own leadership applications. Pupils were able to express interest in specific roles and outline the areas in which they hoped to contribute. Final decisions took into account three key factors: the roles pupils had applied for, the feedback and nominations received from fellow pupils, and the feedback and nominations received from staff.

This approach ensured that appointments were based not only on pupil aspiration, but also on demonstrated leadership potential, suitability for particular roles and the confidence placed in candidates by both their peers and adults within the School.

The process highlighted the depth of talent within the current year group, with many pupils receiving strong support from staff and fellow pupils. The quality of nominations also reflected the positive culture of the School, with pupils and staff frequently recognising qualities such as kindness, inclusivity, responsibility, resilience and service to others.

Head of Sedbergh Prep School, Mrs Kate Martin, said:

“We are very proud to appoint our new pupil leaders for the year ahead. At Sedbergh Prep School, leadership is closely connected to our Ways of the Wolf: Kindness, Ambition, Courage, Creativity, Collaboration and Responsibility. These values help pupils understand that leadership is shown in the way they treat others, the example they set and the contribution they make to school life.
“Our pupil leaders have already shown many of these qualities, and they now have an important opportunity to support others, encourage younger pupils and help strengthen the positive spirit of our community. I look forward to seeing the care, confidence and responsibility they bring to their roles.”

Pupil leadership at Sedbergh Prep School is about service as much as recognition. The new leadership team will be expected to set a positive example, listen to others, support younger pupils and help strengthen the values-led culture of the School.

We warmly congratulate all pupils appointed to leadership roles for 2026–27 and look forward to seeing the contribution they make in the year ahead.
