Sedbergh welcomes an international community for the summer
More than 200 young people from around the world have arrived at Sedbergh this month as the International Summer School begins, bringing together children aged 8ā16 from across Europe, Asia, the Americas and beyond.
For families at Sedbergh Prep School, it offers a reminder that the wider Sedbergh Schools Group is part of a truly international community. Each summer, the campus becomes a place where different cultures, languages and experiences come together through learning, adventure and friendship.
Learning beyond the classroom
The International Summer School combines English language tuition with a varied programme of sport, creative activities, outdoor adventure and cultural visits. English becomes the language of everyday life as pupils learn, explore and build friendships together.
The programme reflects many of the qualities that define a Sedbergh education throughout the year: learning beyond the classroom, encouraging independence, embracing challenge and developing confidence through shared experiences.
An international outlook
Often the pupils who attend the International Summer School return to Sedbergh in future years, joining the Senior School as full-time boarders. They become part of the diverse international community that enriches life at Sedbergh, bringing different perspectives, experiences and cultures to the boarding Houses and classrooms.
For pupils moving on from Sedbergh Prep School, this international outlook is one of the many opportunities that awaits them as they continue their educational journey.
Confidence, friendship and belonging
Gemma Newton, Summer School Course Director, said:
“There is something incredibly special about seeing young people from all over the world come together at Sedbergh. Within just a few days, friendships form, confidence grows and the campus becomes a vibrant international community.
“Our International Summer School offers so much more than English lessons. It gives young people the opportunity to experience everything that makes Sedbergh special, from our beautiful surroundings and exceptional boarding environment to the warmth of our community and the breadth of opportunities available each day.”
As another international summer begins, Sedbergh once again demonstrates the welcoming, outward-looking community that sits at the heart of the Schools Group. For many of the young people taking part, this summer will mark the beginning of a much longer connection with Sedbergh.
