Summer courses begin with more than 350 children welcomed to Sedbergh

More than 350 children arrived at Sedbergh on Monday 20 July for the first week of Sedbergh Courses, beginning a three-week summer programme of residential sport and activity courses for children of different ages and abilities.

Across the summer, more than 1,000 children from across the UK and overseas will take part in the programme. Courses include rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, athletics and other specialist activities, giving children the chance to develop their skills, meet new friends and enjoy a busy, structured residential experience.

For younger children in particular, the courses offer more than sporting development. They provide opportunities to grow in confidence, become more independent and learn how to take part fully in a community away from home. With the support of coaches and pastoral staff, children are encouraged to try their best, work with others and enjoy the experience of learning through activity.

Course Director Jason Duffy said:

“It has been lovely to see so many children arrive for the opening week of Sedbergh Courses. The programme is carefully planned to help children feel welcomed, supported and ready to make the most of their time with us.

“The coaching matters, of course, but so do the friendships, routines and small moments of independence that children experience during the week. We want them to leave with new skills, more confidence and a real sense of achievement.”

Sedbergh Courses forms an important part of the School’s summer activity, giving children the opportunity to enjoy high-quality coaching, residential life and the outdoor environment that makes Sedbergh such a distinctive place to learn and grow.
