My Week at Sedbergh Prep School: Winston, Head of Boys’ Boarding

School life is made up of hundreds of small moments: new experiences, challenges overcome, friendships formed and lessons learnt along the way. In this series, pupils from Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School reflect on their week in their own words, sharing the moments that stood out, what challenged them and where they saw the Ways of the Wolf in action.

First up is Winston in Year 8, reflecting on a week that included new friendships, the Sponsored Walk, rugby, maths – and a particularly strong vote for hash browns.

What three words would you use to describe your week?

“Brilliant, challenging and memorable.”

Why did you choose these words?

“Brilliant because of the new students that I have met and welcomed lately. Challenging because of my first week as head of house in [Jerry?]. Memorable because all the fantastic activities and events I did this week.”

What is one moment from this week that you would like to tell people about?

“The Sponsored Walk was the most standout and fun activity in this week. Although it was very challenging it was worthwhile and enjoyable.”

What challenged you this week, and what did you do about it?

“Adjusting from Year 7 to Year 8 was very challenging and uncomfortable. But I made a lot of new friends and the teachers helped me a lot.”

How did you notice one of the Ways of the Wolf in action this week?

“I saw buddies taking care of new students and helping them adjust to the school environment. This is a good example of kindness which I view as the ultimate value of the Ways of the Wolf.”

What was the best thing that you learnt this week?

“In maths, my teacher taught me to always try everything even though you may not like it.”

Describe your favourite part of school life this week.

“My favourite part of school life is the evening activities because you get so many choices in what you want to do.”
