Sedbergh music workshop brings together young singers and professional performers
Sedbergh Schoolās Music Department will welcome pupils from across the region for a large-scale choral workshop designed to inspire young singers and develop confidence, musicianship and performance experience.
Pupils will join from Ampleforth, QES, Sedbergh Primary, Sedbergh Prep, Cockermouth School, Ghyllside Primary and Terrington, alongside Sedbergh pupils, for a high-energy day of music-making.
The workshop will begin with Handelās iconic Zadok the Priest, giving pupils the opportunity to explore one of the great works of the choral repertoire. They will first be led by Sedberghās Music Department before working with professional conductors, offering pupils the chance to experience specialist choral direction at a high level.
In the afternoon, pupils will come together to build a short workshop performance, supported by professional choir I Fagiolini, York-based chamber choir The 24, and a full orchestra. With more than 200 performers involved, the event will offer pupils the experience of singing as part of a large-scale ensemble.
The informal performance will take place at approximately 2:45pm, with parents warmly invited to attend.
The workshop forms part of Sedberghās wider music outreach programme, sharing the strength of the Schoolās musical provision with pupils from other schools and encouraging young people to experience the energy, discipline and enjoyment of choral singing.
Sedberghās Music Department has a strong tradition of ambitious performance, ensemble work and pupil development. Events such as this give young musicians the opportunity to work collaboratively, learn from professionals and experience the scale and excitement of live performance.
The aim of the day is simple: for every pupil to leave inspired, energised and more confident in their voice.
