2026 A-level results and the pathways ahead
Sedbergh School pupils are celebrating their A-level and BTEC results today, marking the culmination of two years of hard work and the beginning of a wide range of next steps.
Across the cohort, 34.6% of A-level grades were awarded at A*–A, with 82.1% at A*–C. The School also recorded a value-added score of +0.62, reflecting the academic progress pupils have made during their time at Sedbergh.
For the 113 pupils in this year’s A-level cohort, results open the door to an unusually broad range of destinations. 95% of pupils receiving university offers secured an offer from a course of their choice, while 55% have accepted places at high-tariff universities. Across the cohort, pupils are progressing to 30 different universities, alongside degree apprenticeships, employment, gap years and other pathways.

“Today we celebrate some excellent examination results and the hard work, commitment and determination that lie behind them. We are immensely proud of our pupils and grateful to the staff and families who have supported them throughout their journey.
These results matter because they create opportunities and open doors. They are an important measure of academic achievement, and we are proud of what our pupils have accomplished. Yet education should never make the measurable important at the expense of making the important measurable. At Sedbergh, our purpose is to nurture character, foster belonging and equip young people to live with purpose and make a meaningful difference in the world around them.
Whether our pupils are progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment or other exciting pathways, we are equally proud of what they have achieved as of who they have become. We look forward to seeing the positive difference they will go on to make in their communities and beyond.”

Outstanding Pupils
This year’s results reflect both high academic achievement and the breadth of pathways pursued by Sedbergh pupils.
- Christopher B. achieved A*A*A alongside an A in his EPQ and will study Engineering at the University of Warwick.
- Sophie B. achieved A*AA* alongside an A in her EPQ and will study Psychology at Durham University.
- Kitty M. achieved AA*A* alongside an A in her EPQ and will study History at the University of Edinburgh.
- Sonia G. achieved A*AA alongside an A* in her EPQ and will study Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath.
- Finn T. achieved AA*A alongside an A in his EPQ and will study Geology at the University of Leeds.
- Elif S. achieved AAA* alongside an A in her EPQ and holds a deferred place to study Medicine at the University of Nottingham.
- Myla C. achieved AAA alongside an A* in her EPQ and will study Business with Marketing at the University of Edinburgh.
- Francesca G. achieved AAA alongside an A* in her EPQ and will study Philosophy and Theology at Durham University.
- Jemima H. achieved AAA alongside an A* in her EPQ and has an offer for Social Sciences at the University of Birmingham.
- Lewis S. achieved AAA alongside an A* in his EPQ and will begin an apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce.
- Chiyo S. achieved AAA alongside an A* in her EPQ and will study Biological Sciences at UCL.
Strong results were also achieved by pupils following BTEC pathways. Hugo C. and Spencer M. each achieved DiDi*Di*, with Hugo progressing to Business and Management at the University of Exeter and Spencer to Real Estate and Property Management at Leeds Beckett University. Henry B. achieved DiDi*Di and will take a gap year.
Additionally, Isabel Gaskin (OS 2025) A*A*A* + A (EPQ) has secured an offer to read History and Politics at the University of Oxford.
These destinations underline the variety of ambitions within the year group: from engineering, medicine and the humanities to business, property, degree apprenticeships and gap years.
For Sedbergh, results day is both a celebration and a transition. The grades achieved today reflect academic progress and sustained effort; the destinations that follow reflect the different ambitions, interests and strengths of individual pupils.
