Sedbergh Prep School Celebrates Outstanding ISI Inspection Report

We are proud to report the exceptional results of our recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection, which highlights the school’s commitment to excellence across all areas.

The report, which was conducted as part of the regular ISI inspection cycle and assessed both regulatory compliance and the quality of pupils’ education and personal development, commended the school’s high academic standards, outstanding pastoral care and commitment to developing well-rounded, confident young people.

Head, Kate Martin, expressed her pride in the report’s findings:

Academic Excellence and Love for Learning

Inspectors highlighted the school’s broad and stimulating curriculum, noting that “pupils of all abilities make strong progress and achieve well across the curriculum.” The report commended the school’s “highly effective teaching, which engages pupils and fosters a love of learning,” ensuring they develop both knowledge and essential skills for the future.

The inspectors also praised the school’s commitment to providing a dynamic and engaging learning environment, ensuring that pupils are challenged and inspired. The report highlighted how teachers use “a variety of innovative teaching methods to promote deep understanding and intellectual curiosity,” enabling pupils to take ownership of their learning. The school’s emphasis on developing critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills ensures that pupils are well-prepared for their next steps.

Pastoral Care and Personal Development

One of the most highly praised aspects of the school was its nurturing and supportive environment, which encourages every child to flourish. The inspectors found that “pupils develop into confident, articulate individuals with a strong sense of self and respect for others.” They also noted that “the school’s strong pastoral care ensures that pupils feel valued, safe, and supported.”

The report noted that pupils demonstrate “exceptionally high levels of resilience and perseverance,” qualities that are fostered through the school’s varied enrichment programme, including outdoor learning, leadership opportunities, and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Inspectors were particularly impressed with the sports provision, music, drama, and outdoor education, stating that “pupils benefit from an extensive co-curricular programme that promotes teamwork, creativity, and a love of the outdoors.”

The school’s strong sense of community was also praised, with the report highlighting “the warm and inclusive ethos that permeates all aspects of school life.” Inspectors noted that pupils take great pride in their school, showing kindness, integrity, and a willingness to support one another.
