Scholarships

Sedbergh School welcomes talented pupils to the school. A scholarship acknowledges exceptional achievement in academics, the arts, or sports, serving primarily as a testament to a pupil’s accomplishments. These awards are intensely competitive and recipients may also be eligible for a small fee concession.

Find out More about our Scholarship Assessments

Scholarship Awards are offered for entry to Year 9 and to Sixth Form. Year 10 applicants will be considered in exceptional circumstances. Scholarships are also available at Year 7 in our Prep School and more information can be found here.

Scholarship assessments are held in Academics, Art, Design & Technology, Drama, Music and Sport. In addition to technical assessment in their specific discipline, all candidates will have interviews with a senior member of our academic staff, the Head of Year or the Head of the relevant Department.

The Headmaster reviews all assessment reports and results. A discipline-specific Award may be made on the strength of any single field, or an All-Rounder Scholarship Award for outstanding performance in two or more fields.

Recipients may also be eligible for a fee concession of up to 20%. We understand that the financial aspect of education is significant. If your child’s enrolment at Sedbergh depends on fee support, please consult with the Admissions Department before beginning the scholarship application process.

All Scholarships are tenable on condition that the Headmaster is satisfied with the holder’s good conduct and industry. There will be a formal annual review of each Scholar’s performance and behaviour. Scholarships may be withdrawn should the Scholar not meet the expected standards.

Bursaries

Sedbergh School welcomes bursary applications from families who might, under ordinary circumstances, not consider Sedbergh School for their child for financial reasons.

Having already contacted the Registrar, and Registered your child’s application to Sedbergh, you should contact Tony Roberts, (Compliance and IT) tr@sedberghschool.org for guidance on making an application.

Sedbergh School is committed to widening access by enabling children, who would not otherwise be able, to join the School, and to allow children to remain in the event of an unforeseen change in a family’s financial circumstances.  However, Bursarial funds are limited and therefore distributed as beneficially as possible based on a wide range of criteria, not just financial.

All applications are treated in the strictest of confidence, means tested, and will be considered against any available concessions, current or pending awards or scholarships which may be combined into one level of support.  A personal or online application interview or home visit may be required.
