Lupton House

Lupton House, originally Jackson’s Buildings, was renamed in 1908 after Sedbergh School’s founder, Roger Lupton. The first Housemaster, Bernard Tower, moved to Hart House in 1890, with Ralph St John Ainslie, composer of many School Songs, taking over. Lupton closed as a boarding house in 1995, becoming the Lupton Centre until 2001, when it reopened for girls. Its black wolf emblem honours Lord Lupton’s crest, which also inspired the School’s logo.

Take a look around Lupton House

Luptonians can be described as strong, kind, and resilient, taking great pride in their House. The girls are actively encouraged to support one another, make good choices, and value kindness above all else. The older girls take their roles and responsibilities seriously, playing a vital part in the day-to-day running of the House, while the younger girls quickly learn that everyone in the House shares the responsibility of looking out for one another.

Meet the Housemistress: Mrs Macdonald

Mrs Macdonald became Housemistress of Lupton in September 2018, having previously been Deputy Housemistress for three years. She has worked at Sedbergh School since the merger with Casterton in 2013 where she was Deputy Head. Prior to this, she worked at Kings’ Rochester, Giggleswick School and St. George’s Weybridge.
