More than 350 children arrive as Sedbergh Courses summer programme begins

More than 350 children arrived at Sedbergh School on Monday 20 July for the opening week of Sedbergh Courses, marking the start of a three-week summer programme of residential sport and activity courses.

Across the summer, more than 1,000 children from across the UK and overseas will take part in the programme, using Sedbergh’s facilities and experiencing the structure, support and community of a residential course environment.

The opening week includes rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, athletics and other specialist programmes, with pupils working with experienced coaches through a mixture of technical sessions, team activities and structured training. The courses are designed to support children of different ages, backgrounds and abilities, helping them develop skills while also building confidence and independence.

For many participants, the residential element is as important as the coaching itself. Living alongside others, managing routines, meeting new people and taking part fully in each day help children develop the confidence and social skills that sit at the heart of the Sedbergh Courses experience.

Course Director Jason Duffy said:

ā€œTo welcome more than 350 children in the opening week is a very positive start to the summer programme. A great deal of planning goes into creating a course environment where children feel supported, challenged and able to enjoy their sport.

ā€œWhat matters most is that participants leave having developed their skills, grown in confidence and made friendships with children they might not otherwise have met. That combination of coaching, independence and community is what makes Sedbergh Courses such a valuable experience.ā€

Sedbergh Courses is one of the busiest parts of the School’s summer calendar, bringing young people together for residential programmes that make full use of the School’s facilities, coaching expertise and boarding environment.
