Myla: Business with Marketing at the University of Edinburgh

Myla C. achieved AAA alongside an A* in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and will go on to study Business with Marketing at the University of Edinburgh.

Looking back on her time at Sedbergh, Myla describes the influence of ambitious teachers and pupils, the confidence she gained through academic support, and the shared experiences that made her time at School memorable.

Here, Myla reflects on her results, the people who helped her recognise what she was capable of achieving, and the experiences she will carry with her beyond Sedbergh.

How did you feel when you saw your results?

I felt grateful and proud that all the hard work and dedication over the past two years had paid off.

Looking back, what do you think helped you grow academically at Sedbergh?

I think the biggest thing was being surrounded by ambitious people who pushed me to do better, both my teachers and pupils. The community at Sedbergh really pushed me to achieve my results.

Was there a moment when you began to think differently about what you might be capable of achieving?

My confidence really grew through the support of my Psychology teachers and my Economics teacher. They consistently believed in me and encouraged me to push myself, even when I doubted my own abilities.

Their confidence in me helped me grow and helped me to realise that I was capable of a lot more than I initially thought, and that belief has stayed with me.

Finally, when you look back on Sedbergh in a few years’ time, what do you think you will remember most?

Definitely the people and the experiences we shared together. From climbing the Three Peaks, to revising together in the library, to completing the GNR, it’s the memories we made along the way that I think I’ll remember most.

It’s the people I’ve shared those experiences with who made my time at Sedbergh so special.
