Sedbergh School achieves TASS Dual Career Accreditation
While widely recognised for its sporting traditions, Sedbergh has an equal commitment to ensuring that pupils achieve strong academic outcomes and leave with the qualifications, skills and confidence to progress to a wide range of future pathways.
We are delighted that this philosophy of balance has now been formally recognised through accreditation by the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) Dual Career Accreditation Scheme, a Sport England-backed initiative that supports young athletes in balancing high-performance sport with academic success.
The accreditation places Sedbergh within a national network of institutions that meet rigorous standards in enabling student-athletes to pursue both sporting and academic ambitions. It recognises the School’s structured approach to supporting pupils through academic flexibility, coordinated pastoral care and access to specialist resources.
As a Dual Career Accredited Site, Sedbergh becomes part of a wider network working alongside TASS to support student-athletes. Pupils benefit from a framework designed to help them manage the demands of training and competition while maintaining strong academic progress, alongside access to expertise in areas such as performance support, wellbeing and long-term development.
Alan Toward, Head of High Performance Sport, said:
“Sedbergh School is committed to providing academic flexibility and tailored support for talented student-athletes, enabling them to balance the demands of high-performance sport with academic success. Pupils benefit from a structured programme of workshops designed to develop the key skills required to pursue a dual career, alongside opportunities to engage with national initiatives that support progression from further to higher education.
Achieving accreditation represents a mark of excellence, placing Sedbergh among a leading network of institutions that set the standard for dual career development across the UK.”
This recognition reinforces Sedbergh’s position as a school where academic ambition and sporting excellence go hand in hand. It also reflects a broader educational philosophy: that success is not defined by a single pathway, but by ensuring every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential—whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the opportunities that follow.
