Celebrating Languages and Connections

Our Language Lunch is a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures and languages that make up the Sedbergh School community. This term’s lunch, held on Tuesday, 21st January, brings together pupils from both our Prep and Senior Schools for a shared meal and the chance to connect with peers who speak the same language.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) pupils from Casterton Sedbergh Prep School joined Senior School pupils in a truly multilingual gathering. Seven languages are spoken – French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Ukrainian and English – showcasing the incredible cultural richness within our school.

Pupils from Year 5 to Year 13 sit together, chatting and sharing experiences over food, while older pupils serve as role models and mentors for their younger peers. These connections create a supportive and inclusive environment where pupils feel a sense of belonging and pride in their linguistic and cultural heritage.

At Sedbergh School, we embrace the unique contributions of our international pupils, whose experiences and perspectives enrich our community in countless ways. The enthusiasm for these lunches continues to grow, and they take place every half term, with plans to include even more pupils and languages in the future.

Our Language Lunch is a true celebration of the global Sedbergh family, fostering friendships and connections that span languages and cultures. We look forward to the next opportunity to bring our community together!
