Showcasing Creativity: A-Level Art on Display at Farfield Mill

Between February and March every year our A Level Visual Art and Digital Design pupils are proud to display their work in the gallery at the local Farfield Mill. Built in 1837, Farfield Mill fulfilled the lifelong dream of Joseph Dover, originally a merchant from Keswick, whose ambition was to own his own mill. His family owned the mill for 100 years. Now, however, Farfield Mill has 18 Studios that are home to local crafts people, as well as a small shop, a wonderful cafe, and exhibition spaces. The Mill has an energetic buzz that is both supportive and inspiring for our pupils.

Exhibiting their work in a professional (and public) setting helps our pupils to gain confidence in presenting their creative achievements, while encouraging them to engage with feedback from visitors and fellow artists. This experience not only broadens their perspective on the art world but also fosters resilience and innovation as they continue to refine their skills.

Ms. Bolton, Head of Art, comments:
“Having our students showcase their creativity in such an inspiring space helps them understand the real-world impact of their work. Many of our pupils go on to pursue creative pathways after leaving Sedbergh and this experience prepares them for those next steps. It’s a proud moment and a stepping stone to future success in the arts and beyond.”

Below is a gallery of some of the outstanding pieces displayed by this year’s pupils.
